This conference will discuss the future for the UK’s commercial property market, assessing the impact of the changing environment and Brexit on investment and stability - and how the sector is adapting.
Bringing together stakeholders with key policymakers, the agenda looks at the implications for the market of Government policy, including the impact of the 2017 Business Rates re-valuation, and uncertainty over the future of the 100% business rate retention policy for councils - and what the Industrial Strategy could mean for the sector’s growth following the expected publication of the white paper later this year.
A further important area for discussion is the creation of the Government Property Agency, which will take responsibility for the public sector property portfolio and the Government’s plans for the future management and disinvestment of its real estate assets. There will be a keynote address by Sherin Aminossehe, Executive Director - Head of Government Property Unit, Cabinet Office.
Overall, areas for discussion include:
- Brexit - including its potential impact on market stability, and the role of commercial property in attracting inward investment from non-EU markets;
- Government policy - latest thinking on the implications of business rates reform, regional devolution and the Industrial Strategy;
- Public sector assets - market opportunities presented by the rationalisation of the public sector property portfolio; and
- Growth and investment - including options for speeding up commercial property transactions and mitigating the impact of the growth in e-commerce and remote working.
